About Us

 

The Hobbyman opened its doors in 1994 at The Hub arcade in Dandenong and moved to its current location in McCrae Street in 1998.

It has long supported local RC clubs and modellers with the latest products, service and advice.

 

Awards

“Hobby Retailer of the Year” in 2005 (industry voted) and the City of Dandenong Retailer of the Year in 2006.

Owner/Manager – First started racing RC cars 27 years ago with a Metro Jet Hopper on The Early Bird Show, and started working at The Hobbyman in 1995. He has expanded his interests to include large scale aircraft and helicopters and has recently returned to electric off-road – Davin says ”See you at the track!”

Manager/Website Administrator – Has been modelling for more than 25 years. Ex F3C Helicopter Pilot, has in recent times converted to Electric Helicopters/Planes.

RC Cars – Sales/Spares & Repairs – First raced nitro on-road 13 years ago with the original Kyosho MkII Spider, now racing electric off-road. Also a keen RC Crawler enthusiast with some Tamiya Scale Semi-Trailers in the collection as well.

RC Cars – Sales/Spares & Repairs – Has been racing for more than 10 years in both Nitro 1/10th and 1/8th as well as electric on-road and off-road. He has recently pursued an avid interest in electric helicopters and makes it his life mission to unbolt everything he owns and rebuild it.

Hobbies include waxing beard and cracking fart jokes. Got his first RC car when he was the ripe old age of 22 and now at 30, he has a collection which includes Rockcrawlers and fast off-road Vehicles.

Trains – Sales & Repairs – Originally from England, but we wont hold that against him. Barry interest in Model Railways began 45 years ago with a Hornby Triang Set. Today he is a wealth of knowledge to young modellers, and loves all things trains, especially Brass . Baz often  says “But it’s not Brass!”

Stock controller – Takes the occasional RC car out from her vast collection for a spin down the track. She is also interested in anything to do with Planes, Trains and Automobiles.

RC Helis –Repairs & Setups – Has been a long time member of the Melbourne Helicopter Club, competing in many competitions and fun fly events. One of the quietest guys you’ll ever meet – don’t let that fool you – he’s a heli expert!
